Episode Notes

In this Podcast we meet with Mike Reilly – also known as the IRONVOICE and the man behind the mic at the KONA World Championships and many of the biggest IRONMAN races. He has been the announcer and essentially icon of IRONMAN dating all the way back to 1989.

Now think about this for a minute. Mike Reilly has never missed announcing a single KONA race since 19189. He has announced hundreds of IRONMAN races and has been there at the finish line seeing and hearing thousands of amazing stories. He has been the motivation and highlight of many triathletes memories of IRONMAN because of his words and demeanor as they cross the finish line. Picture this; you spent the past year training and you’ve been through so much in your life this year but you kept pushing. you are 50ft away from the finish line of the hardest race of your life and you hear your name being announced and you hear the words “You. Are. An. IRONMAN”. You cross the finish line as the crowd is roaring and your family is there holding up homemade signs and your emotions are at an all time high, realizing you just accomplished one of the biggest moments in your life.

Because of times like these Mike has been apart of so many stories and has had the privilege to connect with so many triathletes that he’s actually been able to create and just released his new book titled “Finding my voice – Tales from IRONMAN, the worlds greatest endurance event”.

I personally a big fan of Mike Reilly, and although I’ve only done 70.3’s I do have it on my bucket list to make sure the first IRONMAN I do that Mike Reilly will be there to announce me across that finish line!

I could go on an on about Mike because he’s truly one in a million and so passionate about triathletes and the sport; but its better if you hear it from Mike himself; so here he is!
