Episode Notes

Today on the podcast, I’m talking with Nathan Martin, fresh off his incredible win at the Los Angeles Marathon. This was one of the most exciting finishes we’ve seen in a long time, coming down to a dramatic lean at the line after 26.2 miles. It’s a moment you truly have to see to believe.

Nathan’s win brought a huge wave of media attention, including an appearance on the The Jennifer Hudson Show, which was so fun to watch. Beyond this breakthrough moment, Nathan has been building an impressive career for years. He holds a 2:10:45 marathon personal best and is the fastest American-born Black man in the marathon.

He placed seventh at the 2024 Olympic Trials Marathon and has also finished in the top 10 at the New York City Marathon. Nathan runs professionally for ASICS and is coached by James McCurdy. Outside of racing, he’s a high school track and cross country coach and works as a substitute teacher, all while continuing to chase big goals in the marathon.

I’m really grateful he took the time to come on the show, especially with how busy things have been for him lately. This is a fun and inspiring conversation with an athlete who is just getting started on what feels like a really exciting chapter.

What we discussed:

  • Adjusting to sudden media attention after LA Marathon win
