Regan Smith on 100 Back WR: "I was motivated by points"
Coming into the 2nd stop of the World Cup circuit, the women's points standings were tight, and every swim mattered. After breaking her own American record on night 1 in the 200 fly, Regan Smith wasted no time making a statement on night 2, tying her own world record in the 100 back in 54.02. After the race, Smith said that she was very motivated to put up a good swim in order to get herself as high in the point standings as possible.
She also previewed her 200 back the next night, saying she really wanted to be under 2:00 and give Kaylee McKeown a battle. The two women both went onto swim 1:57s, the two fastest performances of all-time.
