In December 2015, Gary Neville was surprisingly appointed manager of La Liga outfit Valencia. It was surprising because Valencia were on the cusp of European qualification, and yet Neville had no prior managerial experience, couldn’t speak Spanish, and didn’t want to be a manager in the first place.

So how did he get the job? And how did it go?
