‘It’s not fair on their fans, it’s not fair on their players.’
Southampton have been thrown out of their playoff final with Hull City, a game where the winner is promoted to the Premier League and makes in the region of £200m.
The sanction was handed to the club after they admitted to filming opponents' training sessions three times over the course of the season, including against Middlesbrough before their first leg of their semi-final.
Southampton have appealed against the severity of the punishment and their players are exploring the idea of suing the club due to a loss of potential earnings.
It remains unclear who Hull City will be playing on Saturday for a place in the top flight of English football.
