“Saying Scotland are going home is about the only thing Steve Clarke got right.”
Max and Barry discuss Scotland’s latest subpar performance against Brazil with Ewan Murray and Mark Langdon, what it means for knockout qualification and where the players and manager fell short in this tournament.
Ewan thinks there were many factors to this 3-0 defeat to the Seleção, from catastrophic defensive errors to a manager in Steve Clarke who has possibly stayed at the helm for one tournament too many. Barry doubles down on his earlier assertion that Scotland didn’t score enough against Haiti and will now become undone by their goal difference. Mark Langdon points out that South Africa’s surprise win against South Korea in Group A has dealt a huge blow Scotland’s chances, and suggests that Clarke missed a trick by not taking along a striker such as Oli McBurnie who can hold up the ball and pounce on rare chances.
