Tyler Herro Is On FIRE… But Should Norman Powell Still Start?
Basketball
On this episode of Miami Heat Talk, we dive into one of the BIGGEST debates surrounding the Miami Heat right now — and it’s a conversation that is going to split the fanbase.
Tyler Herro is on an absolute tear.
Herro just won Eastern Conference Player of the Week and over his last three games he’s been averaging 26.5 points per game, reminding everyone once again that when he’s healthy and on the floor, the man can flat-out hoop.
But as great as Herro has been playing, there’s still a major question surrounding the Miami Heat rotation.
What happens when Norman Powell comes back?
Powell, who has been Mr. Reliable all season long, has been one of the most consistent players for Miami and even earned an NBA All-Star selection this year before going down with a groin injury. Now that his return is approaching, the Heat could be facing a very interesting lineup dilemma.
We’ve seen lineups where Tyler Herro and Norman Powell start together, but the results have been mixed. At times the offense looks a little stagnant, almost like the two are playing hot potato with the ball, and defensively the lineup can struggle as well.
So the big question becomes:
Who should start?
Do you keep Tyler Herro in the starting lineup while he’s playing this well?
Or do you return Norman Powell to the starting five after the incredible season he’s been having?
In this episode, we break down why one of these players may need to come off the bench in order for both players to maximize their impact.
Tyler Herro brings something unique because while he’s an elite scorer, he’s also become a much stronger facilitator, which could make him a dangerous weapon running the offense with the second unit.
At the same time, Norman Powell’s consistency, efficiency, and reliability make him extremely valuable in the starting lineup.
One possible solution?
The Miami Heat could experiment.
When Powell returns, Miami could try starting Tyler Herro for a few games while bringing Powell off the bench, just to see how the rotations flow and how the offense operates.
Then as the playoffs approach, Erik Spoelstra can make the final decision on the lineup that gives Miami the best chance to make a deep postseason run.
But the real question is now in the hands of Heat Nation.
Who should start for the Miami Heat?
Tyler Herro or Norman Powell?
