The Amazon Basics golf ball sold out almost immediately after launch because many YouTube reviews claimed it performs just like a Titleist Pro V1 for a fraction of the price.
But there’s a major problem.
Most golf ball reviews — including ones I used to do myself — are testing golf balls the wrong way.
In this video, I explain why typical launch monitor testing can be misleading, what those tests miss about real ball flight, and what the robot testing data from PING’s Ballnamic research reveals about how the Amazon Basics golf ball actually performs.
The results are more nuanced than most reviews suggest.
For some golfers, this ball could actually help their game and save money.
For others, it could change spin rates and iron performance in ways that cost strokes over the course of a round.
In this video, you’ll learn:
• Why most golf ball reviews on YouTube are flawed
• The limitations of indoor launch monitor testing
• Why dimple design and aerodynamics affect real ball flight
• What robot testing reveals about driver and iron performance
• Why spin differences of 800–1000 RPM can dramatically change iron control
• Which type of golfer might the Amazon Basics golf ball actually help
To better understand the data, I spoke with Chris Broadie from PING, whose team runs one of the most advanced golf ball testing facilities in the world. Their research powers Ballnamic, a golf ball fitting tool that analyzes thousands of robot tests to match golfers with the right ball for their swing.
If you’re wondering whether the Amazon Basics golf ball is worth buying, or why golf ball testing is more complicated than it seems, this video will give you a much clearer answer.
