He was the first German footballer ever to lift a European trophy. As captain, Wolfgang Paul led Borussia Dortmund to victory in the 1966 European Cup Winners' Cup. He had already won the German championship with BVB in 1963 and the DFB Cup in 1965. Wolfgang Paul made 240 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring eight goals as a defender.
