At quarterback, everything starts with Joe Burrow. When healthy, Burrow remains one of the NFL's elite passers, combining accuracy, anticipation, and command of the offense. After finishing last season healthy, the focus in training camp will be less about winning the starting job and more about continuing to build chemistry with his receivers while staying on the field. His leadership and comfort in head coach Zac Taylor's offense give Cincinnati confidence that the passing game can once again be among the league's best.
Behind Burrow, veteran Jake Browning returns as one of the NFL's more dependable backup quarterbacks. Browning proved during Burrow's absence that he can keep the offense productive if called upon, making the backup position one of the Bengals' strengths. Training camp will also provide opportunities for the remaining quarterbacks to compete for developmental roles and practice squad consideration, but the top two spots appear firmly established.
The tight end room has more competition and intrigue. Mike Gesicki returns after showing his value as a receiving threat, particularly in the middle of the field and in red-zone situations. His versatility allows Cincinnati to create mismatches against linebackers and safeties.
Second-year tight end Erick All Jr. will be one of the biggest storylines of camp as he continues working back from injury. If healthy, All offers the complete skill set of a reliable blocker and dependable pass catcher. Meanwhile, Drew Sample remains an important part of the offense because of his blocking ability and experience in multiple personnel packages.
Training camp should clarify how Cincinnati distributes snaps among its tight ends, but with Burrow healthy and a capable supporting cast around him, both position groups enter camp as areas of confidence for a team with playoff aspirations.
