Bedard Magic, Pettersson’s GOY Bid & Will Smith Dangles | NHL Week 8 Best Goals
Hockey
Another week, another ridiculous batch of NHL goals — and Week 8 delivered multiple Goal of the Year candidates.
Mat Barzal dazzled on Barzal Bobblehead Night with a silky, edge-work masterpiece vs. Boston, Alex Ovechkin uncorked “an old-time wrister” from long distance because of course he did, and Vancouver gave us two outrageous highlights — first Conor Garland “stickhandling in a phone booth,” then Elias Pettersson batting the puck down, spinning, and scoring while falling in one of the most creative goals of the season.
Chicago’s red-hot Connor Bedard finished off a beautiful Blackhawks passing clinic vs. Minnesota, Nick Blankenburg (Nashville Predators) absolutely roofed a backhander on Cam Talbot, Cole Caufield ripped a sharp-angle missile vs. Vegas, and Auston Matthews danced around Alex Ovechkin before setting up Matthew Knies for the finish.
The Islanders’ Kyle Palmieri showed unbelievable toughness — tearing his ACL mid-collision but still pickpocketing a Flyers defender and setting up a goal on one leg before heading to the bench. Meanwhile, Juraj Slafkovský continued his breakout season with a gorgeous spin-move setup for Ivan Demidov, Dawson Mercer weaved through the Flyers for a beauty, Bedard added another with some “razzle dazzle” on Anaheim, and Will Smith added two more dangle-filled highlights against Utah.
