Tate's Arm Hook on Smart Was a Foul No Matter What | Coach Nick & Chip Break It Down
Basketball
Ime Udoka's meltdown made sense on the surface, but the call was right.
Chip breaks it down perfectly here. Tate's hook was over the top of Smart's arm, not your typical rebounding contact. That means Tate was clearly the one responsible for initiating it. And once you clamp someone's arm like that, you've already prevented them from competing for the ball, whether they go to the floor or not.
Sure, Smart may have embellished the fall a bit. That's Smart being Smart. But the foul was there before any of that happened. Coach Nick even points out Smart was telling James Capers on the baseline mid-play that his arm was being held.
The reaction from Udoka just didn't match the play. The hook was automatic. #shorts
