Emily Mackay Outkicked America's Best to Win Her First US Title
Running
Emily Mackay has spent the last two years finishing just behind the headliner...until Saturday. The Binghamton alum outkicked former training partner Elle St. Pierre over the final 200 meters to win the women's 3000m in a five-second personal best of 8:30.01, claiming her first US title.
St. Pierre pushed a ferocious pace from 1200m out and briefly gapped Mackay. But Mackay fought back, closed in 29.94 over the final 200m and pulled away to win.
On This Week In Track and Field on The CITIUS MAG Podcast, Chris Chavez and Preet Majithia break down how new coach Pete Julian unlocked a new gear in Mackay, what the win means for her World Indoors hopes, and what we also think of St. Pierre heading into Poland.
