Instead of jumping face forward and twisting his body mid-air to navigate his way over the bar like everyone else, Dick Fosbury introduced a new technique: jumping backwards off the 'wrong foot' and arching his body over the bar. The result? A personal record of 2.24 metres and an Olympic gold medal! 🥇
By #Munich1972, 28 of the 40 high jump competitors had adopted the Fosbury Flop, which quickly became one of the most popular methods.
Talk about changing the game...
