Game 1 of the 1998 NLDS pitted the Padres' huge offseason trade acquisition, Kevin Brown, vs. the Astros' Trade Deadline pickup Randy Johnson. Brown had an excellent overall season worthy of votes for the NL Cy Young. Johnson roared to arguably the greatest post-trade stretch of all time for Houston (10-1, 1.28 ERA, 4 shutouts in 11 starts).
This playoff opener lived up to the billing of its starting pitchers, complete with a tight ending at the Astrodome!
