What Woman Runs 2:10 In Her Marathon Debut?

Fotyen Tesfay announced herself as a marathon superstar in her very first attempt at the distance, running 2:10:51 at the Zurich Barcelona Marathon on Sunday, which is the fastest women's marathon debut in history and second only to Ruth Chepngetich's world record.
How dominant was it: Tesfay won by nearly eight minutes, finishing in 2:10:51 while runner-up Joan Jepkosgei Kiplimo crossed in 2:18:42.
The context: Tesfay, 28, entered the race as the third-fastest women's half marathoner in history. She more than lived up to that billing, hitting halfway in 1:05:05 and reaching 40km on world record pace before wind in the final stretch slowed her closing split.
She had bigger goals: Tesfay's target was Chepngetich's world record of 2:09:56, set in Chicago in 2024. She fell 55 seconds short — but was unapologetic about what comes next.
What she said: Tesfay told race broadcasters the wind cost her in the final miles, adding: "In the next marathon I would like to try for the world record."
