Hicham El Guerrouj dominated the 1,500m and mile for nearly a decade, winning four world titles and 83 of 86 finals. Yet despite his dominance on track, Olympic heartbreak accompanied his journey, with dramatic losses at Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. Refusing to give up, he returned at Athens 2004 and finally claimed gold in a thrilling 1,500m finish. Just days later, he stunned the world again by winning the 5,000m, completing a historic double, a legendary achievement not seen since Paavo Nurmi in 1924.
