After three years at LSU, Sa'Myah Smith transferred to Virginia for her redshirt junior season. She missed the early part of the season, but played a real factor for UVA in ACC play. Smith raised her scoring and rebounding averages over her previous year, scoring 7.8 points and grabbing a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game with the Cavaliers. Also, after hitting only one three-pointer in three seasons at LSU, Smith hit seven three-pointers in 19 games played for Virginia.
