Holy Snowman! What a Save! | NHL Week 16 Best Stops
Week 16 delivered chaos on the goal line, desperation clears, and highlight-reel robberies that had announcers yelling, “Holy snowman!”
Skaters helped out between the pipes early, with Nino Niederreiter and Victor Olofsson diving into the crease to keep pucks from crossing the line. Buffalo’s Alex Lyon had a huge week, swiping a puck off the goal line in Nashville before sliding post-to-post to deny Tony DeAngelo later in the week.
In Edmonton, Tristan Jarry electrified the crowd with a cartwheel glove robbery on Cody Glass, while in Utah, Karel Vejmelka snared a Trevor Zegras snapshot cleanly into the trapper. Vegas’ Akira Schmid recovered just in time with the blocker to rob Pavel Zacha, and James Reimer took away a sure goal with a desperation reach on Jonathan Marchessault.
Frederik Andersen stretched out for a beautiful shootout pad save against Chicago, Adin Hill flashed the leather on Easton Cowan, and Andrei Vasilevskiy got the tip of the paddle on a Chicago overtime chance to keep the game alive.
In Calgary, Devin Cooley shut down a Michigan attempt from Jacob Chychrun, Elias Pettersson delivered a kick save on an empty-net chance, and Juuse Saros robbed Nick Schmaltz with a toe save in Nashville. Mackenzie Blackwood looked like an elastic magician with a sliding denial on Mattias Maccelli, and Stuart Skinner, now with the Pittsburgh Penguins, capped the week with a save reminiscent of Marc-Andre Fleury’s iconic Stanley Cup moment.
